A Very Sad Update.

So I think it’s well known that I hate killing off characters, but if I think it is needed in the plot, then I do so. For the final draft, I will get around to killing off a certain main character that I refused to kill off in the previous drafts. It just seemed ridiculous to me that they stayed alive, really. I only kept them alive because of how scared I was to kill them. It changes the plot of the second book slightly, but it’s important that it happens. Otherwise, it’s not realistic and the whole point of the story is not as compelling.

I REALLY hate myself for doing this. The fans will probably hate me just as much, but I can live with that.

To end this off nicely, for the final draft, I will finally do what I proudly proclaimed I would do initially. Now, half of the book is from the protagonist’s perspective and the other half is from the antagonist’s perspective.

Basically, what I’m telling you is that there is now no antagonist or protagonist. There are just warring sides. And really, that’s what I should have done all along.

Gabriel, out.

I’m making a new character!

I have come up with an idea for a new character for the second draft. I don’t know how well it’s going to go, but here’s to trying! *raising earthen goblet filled with ale into air*

I came to realize that a there are a lot of magical people in this book that I’m writing. Specifically, a lot of them are just born with it. But what if there was someone who wasn’t? With the way that magic is set up in the book, that seems almost impossible. But it isn’t… there is a way. It is known as crystal magic

And what if that person not born with such abilities were to be considered on par with some of the great magicians of their time, all without a single magical bone in their body? It’s an interesting idea, and I want to pursue it. I hadn’t been pursuing it for some time, as I thought I had too many characters. But I offed a few formerly major characters and had room for another.

Also, a Wiccan dude from Tumblr wanted me to make him into a character. That may have played a part in this whole thing.

He most definitely played a part.

And yeah, I’ll admit it. This is super friggin’ awesome.

Making a Language: Pt. 2

The second part of the series on making the language for the book!

I haven’t gotten a whole lot more done in regards to language for the novel, but here’s what I can tell you. A lot of soul speak is based off Gaelic, with the general sound at least. The rest, in regards to sound, is based off Elvish. Well, it is and it isn’t. I like Tolkien’s concept I’m making Elvish role off the tongue, in essence making a very human language. Making a Language: Pt. 2

But I’m going in a slightly different direction. I don’t want you to have to worry about breathing while speaking this language.

No, don’t worry, you are going to be breathing while speaking. What I mean by that is that I incorporate the breath into the language. For instance, one of the letters is literally just a heavy “H”. It sounds like you’re sighing. So, when you say a word like “Hhalverron”, you get to breath out while speaking. Now, as you may remember with the other blog about this, I don’t actually use English letters for this language. The letter “HHA” is merely a spiral. That’s all. I’m also working on the letters based on breathing in, but I’m not sure how exactly I’m going to do that. That all comes with making the language, I suppose.

So why did I choose to make the language based on breathing? Simply because it’s easier that way. If you can skip the breaths between words, you can get messages across faster. Plus, it sounds cool. Who doesn’t want a really cool sounding language?

I’m beginning to realize just how much is involved making this language. For the next couple weeks, I’ll probably be getting some form of a language major to help me with making this language. I’m still working on connector words, like “And”, “Or”, “Nor”, etc. I’m not sure I mentioned this in the last post, but as of now it’s based on dashes, literally connecting the words or phrases.

That’s it for today’s post, let me know what you think in the comments section. All of the stuff is up for grabs; you guys are more than welcome to try to help me out with this. I’m really not a multiple languages major or anything like that, so I don’t know a whole lot about making languages. But there might be somebody on WordPress that does! So don’t delay to give me ideas!

Looking Forward [novel blog]

What can you expect from the Dark Veil series? Check this new blog to find out!

Telescopes are probably not going to be a weapon.

I can’t think of an actually decent post so I’m just going to run with this.

What am I looking forward to most about my book? Because the fact of the matter is I have most of the series planned out at this point. Yes, I’m one of those outlining sort of people, I like to have things planned out well in advance. I already know how book four ends. But that’s not really the point of this blog – this…

Looking Forward [novel blog]

I can’t think of an actually decent post so I’m just going to run with this.

What am I looking forward to most about my book? Because the fact of the matter is I have most of the series planned out at this point. Yes, I’m one of those outlining sort of people, I like to have things planned out well in advance. I already know how book four ends. But that’s not really the point of this blog – this is about me looking forward to what I’m most excited about writing for the series. And this is mainly for those who haven’t seen this stuff before, as I have hinted to most of these in the past.

Battle of the Blades
Later in the series there will be a battle between two sword users of two different styles – the katana and the broadsword. I’m super stoked about this one. They won’t go by those names, as this is a different world and such names are nonexistent. But they are those blades in disguise. I’ve always wanted to see this fight in reality, so why not write it as well? This fight will be put on a more even level, as the broadsword in question is made of pure noggard (one of the big beasts in the series) bone. The reason for the fight happening will make the battle even more intense.

Just saying, it could be awesome.

Release the Fairies
They won’t be as involved in the first book, but fairies are going to become a major part of the series. My version of Oberon and Titania, the king and queen of the fairy people in Earth lore, will be making a cameo appearance in the series. It will be in a very… uncouth… fashion. Still, I am beyond excited for you all to see it.

Not quite this uncouth…

King of Pirates
A certain book in the series will take use of the countries’ shape, and will be hitting the high seas. Watch for pirates and pillagers, cannons and cutlasses, bombs and buccaneers, sails and… sailors… I’m running out of ideas here. Basically, it’s going to be awesome, because this time the pirates have a trick up their sleeves. And no, it is not a sword. But there will be swords! There will definitely be swords. And guns. And a lot of other weapons pirates should probably not have.

Telescopes are probably not going to be a weapon.
Telescopes are probably not going to be a weapon.

The Last Battle
This should probably be obvious, but there will indeed be a last battle. It’s cliche, but it’s also a lot of fun. And this one will be extra special, because something that isn’t quite as cliche is going to happen. I really want to explain, but I can’t. I just can’t, people. It makes me so sad. But trust me, this last battle will quite literally be… earth-shattering.

Just wait, Marvin. Just wait.

That’s all I have for tonight. But there will be more. Yes, there will be more. And to keep up with it, you have to follow this blog! Or just follow me on Facebook, that works too. Unless you already are. Then just stay where you are.

Happy Birthday to ME!!

Happy Birthday to ME!!

its my birthday

So now you finally get to find out how young this dude actually is. It may not sound like it from all my Soundcloud stuff, but I’m actually 19. Even next to Christopher Paolini, that’s probably way too young to be almost ready to publish a book. But that’s all right, age is just a number.

Happy Birthday to ME!!

So now you finally get to find out how young this dude actually is. It may not sound like it from all my Soundcloud stuff, but I’m actually 19. Even next to Christopher Paolini, that’s probably way too young to be almost ready to publish a book. But that’s all right, age is just a number.

This year’s going to be psycho for the book, speaking of which. It’s taking off in one of the darkest directions a book can go. It wasn’t really intended, but the very nature of the world makes it have to be dark. It don’t know if it can any longer be considered a teen fantasy, even. I’m not saying I’m necessarily proud of that. I’d intended this to be reaching a wider audience. The characters really took the story and ran with it, though. I can’t stop this thing, it’s like the boulder from Indiana Jones.

Basically either it gets published or I go insane with characters running through my skull demanding an audience. Luckily as an author, I can kill my own creation eventually. So here’s hoping it gets good enough to be published.

Anyway, four minutes till midnight, feels good to be almost two decades old! Sort of. 🙂

More Book Updates!

Things get epic as the deadline to getting the second draft done gets closer. So, things are changing, and I’m going to tell you some of them.

1. Dragons are officially no longer in the series. For a fantasy writer, maybe this seems pretty weird, but it’s true! I decided I wanted to change things up quite a bit, and so while we are going to have winged lizard-like creatures, they most certainly are not dragons. It’s very likely they’re not even going to breathe fire. However, they are going to be able to change their colors. And they are called noggards. Yes, I’m not always very creative.

2. Familiars will now be in the series! No, they aren’t reporting to the devil, but they’re there! They can communicate and practice some basic magics. You won’t see much of them in the first books, but they definitely play a part in book 2 and 3 as of right now. And the first one is going to be a froad, which is a lot like a toad, and somewhat like a frog, but mostly like a chameleon.

3. We are way closer to getting the teaser trailer done. After many months of searching, we finally found an actor in the New York area, and we weren’t even looking for one at the time! We were going to do it all by animation, but it looks like God had other plans. His name is Sonny, and he may just become our face of evil. And from what I heard, he is super pumped to be doing this. But now I feel bad about him only being seen for about twenty seconds. I feel like he needs to do more. We shall see.

4. The main country of the book is now by the water. This means the mountains may no longer be mountains. They may just be really big hills. In fact, this country may even be a peninsula. This means there could be some epic fights on the water. No, there ARE going to be epic fights on the water. Pirates are in order.

And that’s really it. I haven’t come up with anything terribly exciting otherwise. Have a good weekend!
