To make the ethnicity for Dark Soldier’s main people group, which does not exist on Earth, we are mixing Asian, South and Latin American to create the ULTIMATE ETHNIC GROUP.
In reality, we’re just taking a half white/half Peruvian and adding olive skin tone with slightly curly black hair.
Is that brownface? I don’t know if that’s brownface.
I am very excited to announce that I will be doing an Alice in Wonderland fanfiction for National Novel Writing Month. A novel-length fanfiction? Dang right.
Destiny’s Wonderland will be placed after the events of both of the books and into Alice’s adult life. Alice has since been sent to a psych ward, but Destiny, her daughter, soon claims that she herself has gone to Wonderland. The problem? She was never told about it beforehand. Taken from the point of view of both the maid and Destiny herself, Destiny’s Wonderland chronicles Destiny’s trip into madness… or is it?
So follow this blog to hear more about the awesomeness that will be Destiny’s Wonderland.
So, I open this question up to WordPress as well as Tumblr.
For the entire time I have written Dark Soldier, the riders of Jevruun (a mountain city in the coldest regions of Vaelora), have always ridden moose. But I am considering changing that for the final draft sent to agents. I now think perhaps it is better that they ride caribou or reindeer.
Just observe how majestic she looks. And comfortable. Seems like a good long-term ride and companion to me.
But moose are also very large and intimidating to those they would do battle with. And just imagining that is cool.
EVEN MORE MAJESTIC. But they probably can’t run for long periods in battle. Hm.
So I open this question up to those in Alaska, Russia, and any cold regions where you ride something other than a horse regularly.
What would be a better steed for Jevruunites, a caribou/reindeer or a moose?

So I finally got draft two of Dark Soldier done. It’s a really epic moment for me, as many of y’all know. Now it’s going to some friends for minor edits, then beta readers, then an agent. The agency I have planned is the same one that does Infernal Instruments.
I thought, “hey, that’s dark fantasy/steampunk, my book is dark fantasy/steampunk, we’re probably going to have the same audience.”
After that, it’s time to find an editor and finally a publisher! And after that? Who knows?!
As I try to get my computer fixed so I can continue writing/editing Dark Soldier, I’ve been thinking over the book as it is so far. I’ve been wondering, what is it that sets Dark Soldier apart from other books?
I would say that one of the main things I would like people to remember is that the protagonists are people. They’re not choir kids and they make mistakes and their bad decisions are not glossed over. Even the antagonists make good decisions and I don’t ignore the fact that they are people, too. I would like readers to really care when a character dies on either side. I want to stop the view that certain people are purely evil or good just because it’s more convenient for them to see them that way. And I want them to see that you don’t have to be a saint to save a life.
Anyway, I’m working on getting the book published by early 2016. Watch for Dark Soldier and follow me for more info!!
