Newest Scene

Easily my favorite scene I have written for any of my stories:

Destiny awoke with a start. She had not had any nightmares that night. In fact, she could not think of what she had dreamed at all. She imagined that she hadn’t dreamed. It was very possible.

But what she was hearing now was just the strangest thing. She put her hear to the edge of the door to hear their voices. It was two very shrill voices arguing about seemingly nothing.

“What?” asked the first one.

“Oh, nothing,” replied the other.

“Nothing at all?”

“Some sort of nothing, I should say.”

“So something as well as nothing?”

“No, just nothing of something.”

She heard tea being sipped.

“I say…”

“Say what?”

“Yes.”

“What?”

The first voice groaned. “None of that.”

“None of what?”

“Yes.”

She heard a cup hit wood angrily. “We don’t have any of what? We really ought to.”

“I should say so.”

“But you haven’t?”

“I just did.”

“What?”

“Say so.”

“Not you!”

“Not me?”

“Of course not!”

She heard a chair move. “Fine then, I won’t!”

“Won’t what?”

“Say so!”

There was a long pause. “But you just did.”

“Did what?”

“Yes.”

“Oh, I’d forgotten.”

“As had I. What are we forgetting?” She heard tea being poured, and after a little while, it being sipped again.

“How should I know?”

“I don’t know.”

“Me neither.”

“No, you’re not neither.”

They sipped tea again. “Then what am I?”

“What.”

“I’m what?”

“Yes.”

“And you? What are you?”

“No, you are.”

“I know, but which are you?”

“I don’t really know.”

“Neither do I.”

“No, I don’t really know.”

“Oh, you don’t?”

“No, I don’t really know,” the second repeated again.

“Nor do I.”

“You don’t understand. More tea?”

“Certainly.” She heard tea being poured another time.

To become a writing buddy for NaNoWrimo, check me out here!

For those who don’t know, I am writing a NaNoWriMo book based in the Alice in Wonderland series. It is a lot of fun to write, because I get to be a little bit of a madman for the month. The book Destiny in Wonderland chronicles the adventures that happen after Alice is gone.

But after some writing, I have finally gotten to mentioning a very important character’s return.

That’s right.

The Queen of Hearts is back in town.

Destiny’s Wonderland: Sneak Peek

November 6, 1892

Day One

Destiny only appears to be getting worse.

So that I may have some background when I read this later, she has already come to believe in this other world. That started happening only the day before yesterday. I am unsure how to treat her, whether to let her roam free with this idea or to dispel it from her mind.

Still, she is so determined.
I am praying that this is a passing phase. I believe that, perhaps, she is just very involved in her imaginary worlds. I hope most of all that she actually realizes that they are imaginary. She is a very clever child, like her mother, and I do believe that this could easily be the case.

However, based on what we have seen so far, including her running into a mirror to chase after some grinning cat, I fear that it is something far more sinister. I fear she is becoming mad, just as her dear mother has.

I cannot imagine that they would actually put her in a madhouse as they did her mother. She is, after all, only ten years of age! All the adults in that place would eat her alive. That would be most dreadful, and I hope that the doctor avoids this possibility for as long as possible.

Anyhow, regarding symptoms: she has, as said before, run into the mirror at an object that was not there. That was the first and only time she has done something this drastic. But she has not gotten, per se, better. Whenever I have tried to suggest that her other world, “Wonderland”, is false, she goes into a hysterical fit, from which she cannot be calmed for some time.

I am a good maid.

I am sure of it.

But this child will most assuredly be the death of me.

Israel Mythology?

bookgeekconfessions:

I’m doing my NaNoWriMo research.

I want to include myths and magic from the middle east, more pointedly Israel,  but I don’t know anything about Israeli magic, myths.

Think Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, in the way magic would be used. I search Israel and magic and not much has come up. Should it be jewish magic? What would bring up more cultural links?

Alright, here is my best answer to your question. This should get you started on your epic quest, but it is far from a complete list. This is a fascinating subject.

MAGIC

MYTHICAL CREATURES

NON-CANON MYTHOS

For more on this, look up pseudographical books! Lots of fun stuff in those.

This will be very tricky to pull off if you are at all concerned about political correctness, since there are a lot of Jewish and Christian people, me being one of them. I would be wary of using the Torah/Bible for any part of the mythos. Most of the things I gave you are extrabiblical/non-Torah stuff.

However, I look forward to what you make of this, and will not judge at all should you include Israel’s history in your fantastical book. There are AMAZING stories in the Torah that you could use. Look up angels as well. There’s so much fun stuff on angels, to the point they have entire classes dedicated to the study of angels in seminary.

But my main piece of advice is to ask around. I’m sure there are people very knowledgeable on Tumblr who could help out with this.

I wish you luck in your NaNoWriMo novel writing!

ARTISTS NEEDED

Hey, so I’m in need of some cover art for my NaNoWriMo novel. As an artist, I could do it myself, but I love seeing different interpretations. It’s set in the same universe as Alice in Wonderland, so that should help with the ideas. Get the synopsis HERE.

And I’m a college student, so I can’t pay much. Sadness.

Let me know if you’re interested! Thanks.

NaNoWriMo Novel!

I am very excited to announce that I will be doing an Alice in Wonderland fanfiction for National Novel Writing Month. A novel-length fanfiction? Dang right.

Destiny’s Wonderland will be placed after the events of both of the books and into Alice’s adult life. Alice has since been sent to a psych ward, but Destiny, her daughter, soon claims that she herself has gone to Wonderland. The problem? She was never told about it beforehand. Taken from the point of view of both the maid and Destiny herself, Destiny’s Wonderland chronicles Destiny’s trip into madness… or is it?
